Black History Resources

A selection of Black History resources to coincide with Black History Month that takes place every October.

Local Resources:

Journeys to Cheshire was a one year oral history project funded by the Heritage Lottery fund and managed by Cheshire, Halton & Warrington Race & Equality Centre.

We created a Journeys to Cheshire DVD with extracts of the interviews which is about 35 minutes long.

Not everyone is included on the DVD but don’t forget to look at the book for more stories (click on the picture below for a copy!)

CHAWREC produced a Black Icons booklet, with pen portraits of significant people in History.

The Guardian has an excellent section on Black History.  Particular highlight is thier Interactive Timeline (We have a hard copy of this if you are interested in borrowing, contact us)

The BBC World Service Witness programme has a selection of audio from significant moments in Black History. has a wealth of stories, videos and events.  Particularly of interest is their magazine, which you can read below:

Show Racism the Red Card is a project aimed at tackling racism amongst school children through the medium of sport, their website includes resources and games.
